How did you get into marketing/communications?

I studied business and finance at university and whilst undergoing my studies found a fascination with all things digital (in particular digital marketing)

After I had finished my course I applied for job as a link analyst at Branded3. I was thrown into a world of SEO, a world i didn’t even knew existed.

This was back in 2012 before digital PR was even a thing, however even back then i saw an opportunity to take brands online and build their engagement and visibility via a PR approach.

Around 2014 myself and a colleague of mine started the PR team at Branded3 which we built into a team of 15, working with clients globally.

What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?

The teams I have built.

I have been fortunate to work and hire some of the most amazing and talented people I know. Many of my hires have gone on to start new businesses, build their own teams or move to senior marketing roles.

To date I have managed three PR teams and for me, I am most proud when I see my team members go on to achieve their goals and ambitions.

How has marketing/communications helped the organisations you’ve worked for?

Marketing and communications has been a key part of the businesses i have worked for as it has allowed them to see significant growth in terms of client and revenue base.

I work for an agency and the content marketing team connects with every other team in our business. From paid to SEO, we help all teams grow by marketing themselves and delivering results for clients.

What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?

When I first started out back in 2012 I was not the most confident character. I often hid away from the limelight and never pushed myself out of my comfort zone.

By slowing pushing myself (thanks to the amazing people i do and have worked with) I have managed to build multiple teams and build a career for myself which I love.

Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?

The world of marketing and communications hosts some of the most intelligent people I have ever met. We work in an industry where knowledge transfer regularly happens, be this at conferences or online, people are always sharing results and learnings.

Make sure you read this feedback, listen to them and learn from them. This will help you become a better marketer.
