What job do you do?
I am a Marketing Director at jisp, an award winning tech start-up delivering mobile marketing, shopping and payment solutions

How did you get into marketing/communications?
I kind of fell into it. My background has always been admin, and when I saw an opportunity at jisp to join the admin/events team, I didn’t hesitate to apply. Gradually my role evolved into events/marketing, and when a position opened up for a Marketing Manager within the company, I sank my teeth into this opportunity and haven’t looked back since. I love marketing because you can be as creative as you want and can see your ideas come to fruition. It’s inspiring to see the engagement we get from our marketing campaigns.

What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?
This is probably going to sound very strange, but the thing I am most proud of is my team. Everyone is super passionate about all the projects we take on, we work as one cohesive team, and everyone can express their opinions and throw their hats in the ring without a fear of being judged. Together we have produced some really incredible and innovative campaigns from video content to digital advertising. It’s also great to know that with every single project we grow together, maybe somewhere teach each other, and I know I can rely on them to deliver the best work.

How has marketing/communications helped the organisations you’ve worked for?
My team and I have definitely helped to bring our clients’ ideas to life through visuals and in-store POS to demonstrate how to use our product. We also keep the team spirit going by introducing a vlog to document everything going on in our start-up that we then share on our social media channels.

Essentially marketing is the tool to showcase our products to a wider audience, and we utilise different channels to achieve this. We have definitely noticed a surge of followers on our social media channels after every single announcement, people are genuinely interested in what we have to say and offer, and this pushes us further.

What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?
My biggest challenge at jisp was working for a start-up that no one has heard about before. Our solutions are very unique which means we literally have no competitors, and therefore can’t do audits or take inspiration from anyone else. At the same time it is a blessing, as I can just let my imagination roll while trying and testing different ideas and tools with no restrictions.

Despite coming from a different background, I’ve always felt that I am exactly where I need to be right now, and when I do hit a wall, I continue challenging myself and researching new marketing ideas and tools.

Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?
Never stop learning! There is always something new and interesting you can teach yourself as marketing is such a broad industry with so many different elements.
