Where are you based?
Where do you work and what job do you do?
I work in Maharashtra, India and am a Personal Brand Consultant, Two time TEDx Speaker and Digital Marketing Trainer.
How did you get into marketing/communications?
I started marketing myself on Linkedin and Facebook. Soon, While building my personal brand on Linkedin, I got some amazing opportunities like getting featured in magazines like ‘Entrepreneur’, Books like ’30&Under’ and getting my first TEDx talk. So, Basically, My Linkedin posts gave me some dream opportunities and helped in building my personal brand. Now, I am a two time TEDx speaker featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Huffington Post, MSN, etc and am enjoying the learning process in the field of marketing.
What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?
The thing I am most proud of myself is that after getting rejected at least a dozen times for a TEDx talk, My first TEDx talk came by itself when the organizer reached out to me on Linkedin. Also, The second TEDx followed soon. Becoming a TEDx speaker was a dream since I had grown up watching these talks during my engineering days.
How has marketing/communications helped the organisations you’ve worked for?
I guess bringing a strong personal brand to the workplace enables you to add some value to the organisation as people who know you, trust you and connect with you better also feel better connected with the brand/organisation that you work for. Also, I believe the organisation plays a huge role in doing the same for employees. It helps employees get a better reach.
What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?
I guess focusing on the monetization of your marketing strategies are extremely important. With parameters like likes, views of social media posts, magazine features, etc having a huge influence on our marketing and branding strategies, It’s important to focus on the ‘conversion’ factor.
Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?
I believe in ‘Life is not about the right Aptitude, But, It’s about the right Attitude’ and the quote ‘Your Network is Your Networth’. So, I believe in trying things with a great attitude.
I remember when I started on Linkedin and I started getting traction, Not many people believed in me. But, Linkedin was something like a ‘calling’ and I kept on posting content on Linkedin. And, Today, I can proudly say that most of my dream opportunities have come from Linkedin. So, If you believe in something, keep doing it and believe your gut because it knows what lies ahead. Also, In the field of marketing and communications, standing out and maintaining relationships is extremely important. So, Stand out! How? Wish people on their birthday, but, differently. Don’t just send them a normal message. Call them or prepare a video for them! Do something that surprises them and that you stand out. Also, Be genuine. People are smart and they will sense if you are doing something in order to get a favour from them. It’s simple. Add value and stand out!
