How did you get into marketing/communications?
Whilst taking a course in journalism, I realised that I was a lot better suited to communications than reporting. I began networking and gaining work experience in PR and marketing wherever I could. I developed skills across multiple communications roles including SEO and social media as well as in multiple sectors including hospitality and professional services. When graduation was approaching, I was reached out to by Twinkl’s recruitment team and the rest is history.
What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?
Creating positive relationships with online personalities and outlets that see significant benefits gained for the company.
How has marketing/communications helped the organisations you’ve worked for?
My work has helped significantly improve brand awareness across emerging international markets as well as grow the domain authority of our websites.
What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?
Adapting from a journalistic background to a role which requires skills across multiple different communications roles was my biggest challenge but one which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed doing. Growing my skillset is always a great feeling.
Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?
Don’t worry if you’ve trained in another discipline or don’t yet have the experience. Many people enter marketing with completely unrelated backgrounds so, as long as you have the right mindset and enjoy marketing work, you’re more than able to kickstart a career in this profession.
