Regex SEO / Marketing Manager
How did you get into marketing/communications?
Marketing? Kind of stumbled upon it, honestly. I was originally trying to get a career going in website development but wasn’t dead set by the time I started looking. I ended up in an entry-level SEO position and I loved how it tied everything together. It was a great feeling seeing how design, strategy and language all came together to help improve performance.
What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?
My growth as a marketer. I always feel like I’m learning new things. I think what makes me proud is seeing an idea come to fruition. When a marketing strategy pays off, there is no better feeling.
How has marketing/communications helped the organisations you’ve worked for?
Goals are going to vary, and phone calls/form submission aren’t always the goal. That being said, at the end of the day it’s about bringing in more quality leads to any business I work with.
What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?
Oh man, honestly it’s probably account management and keeping in scope. There is a fine line with keeping a client happy and staying within deliverables. We want all our clients to be happy with our work, but sometimes in doing that, we’ll let small task/favours snowball into full-blown projects.
Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?
You don’t know anything coming into this. Being able to put yourself in the consumers’ shoes, being able to think outside the box, and being able to be economic with the data you have are the keys to success.
