Where are you based?
What job do you do?
I run Isoline Communications, a tech B2B specialist content marketing agency.
How did you get into marketing/communications?
I was the type of kid who knew the tagline and jingle to every advertisement, and I gradually became fascinated by the creative process – how one takes a business brief and then converts it into a vivid, compelling piece of content that evokes a reaction from those who see or read it. I was one of the lucky ones really, I knew I wanted to be in marketing communications right from the beginning. I joined J. Walter Thompson in India and never looked back.
What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?
The fact that over a 25-year career I have only lost one client.
How has marketing/communications helped the organisations you’ve worked for?
It has helped them connect better with their customers, clear up misconceptions, sell better and create enduring relationships.
What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?
I have been lucky enough to work in four major business centres around the world: India, Singapore, Hong Kong and London – over 25 years. I think the biggest challenge has been to hit the ground running in each market, taking advantage of my experience while continuing to learn and evolve.
Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?
Stay agile and grab every opportunity that comes your way. And in the immortal words of Arnold Schwarzenegger in THAT viral speech: ‘Work your backside off!’
