Where are you based?
What job do you do?
Currently I split my time between working with Branswer as a content writer and working for myself running my online Magazine Seamless Design Online.
How did you get into marketing/communications?
I entered the world of marketing and communications via University. I Undertook an undergraduate degree in journalism and one of the most enjoyable modules I completed was ‘Marketing and PR’. The module gave me an academic view of the profession whilst also allowing me to create practical projects, such as creating marketing campaigns and actively using social media effectively, not just socially.
From there I have stepped into Branswer as an intern where I am currently continuously learning more of the ‘real life’ practical elements of marketing and communications.
What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?
Where I stand now, because I am at the very beginning of my Journey into marketing and communications , I feel most proud of the fact that I got here in the first place because now that I am here, I can continue to learn, to grow and to be more inspired by the people around me than ever before.
How has marketing/communications helped the organisations you’ve worked for?
while I was at university, I utilised my developing marketing and communications skills to help the company I worked for at the time by managing their social media feeds for them. My partner also has their own business so I lent my skills to help grow their business’ online presence via multiple email campaigns and by creating content for their website.
More recently however, I have embarked on my own business venture so I am currently reviewing all my past experiences, seeing what worked, what didn’t etc. and funnelling/ avoiding those outcomes and pairing them with the skills that I have picked up to utilise them in my own project.
What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?
As I am at the very beginning of my journey the most challenging thing I have overcome is understanding that there is no straight forward, singe summarization of what marketing and communications really is as, to me, it is dependant on the context its in.
Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?
From what I have heard, marketing and communications is like working invisibly; it is not the most appreciated job in the world but it is one of the most needed jobs in the world. So, the words of wisdom I choose to follow is “whatever you do, do it for you” meaning don’t be a pushover, appreciate yourself and just be you.
Lastly, where can we find you online? You can find me hidden behind my latest venture!
