Where are you based?
What job do you do?
Social Media Marketer
How did you get into marketing/communications?
Business in general always interested me, as I admired start-ups and the creative aspects of marketing. Consequently, I decided to take the business for one of my A-Levels in college. I really enjoyed the course and the different elements of business, however I found marketing to be my favourite aspect. Following this I went to Newcastle University to study English Literature but due to my passion I started to take optional modules in marketing. My heart was set from then on, and now I am trying to build my career in marketing, specifically specializing in social media and public relations.
What are you most proud of in your career as a marketing/communications professional?
Although I am only just starting my career, I am proud of getting an article published in the local newspaper and achieving my 3 month KPI goal at Branswer in a period of just 2 days.
How has marketing/communications helped the organizations you’ve worked for?
Marketing and communications massively boost the sales and publicity of a business. When I was working in PR for Huddersfield University, they used their press releases in order to promote the business and show their achievements in the media (such as The Examiner). Without marketing and communications, it would be extremely difficult to create a successful business.
What challenges have you overcome on your professional journey to where you are today?
I had to learn a huge amount of marketing terms through my studies, and even some financial formulas – that was my greatest struggle as I have always been terrible at math!
Do you have any words of wisdom for someone starting out in the marketing/communications industry?
Be creative, don’t be afraid to voice your ideas and stay positive.
